A candidate for the position of President of the University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) claims she was unfairly removed from the 2024 election ballot.
Lauren Onderwater, a third-year political science student, was eliminated from the running for president in the week before voting, and she isn’t sure why.
She received warnings and a sanction from SUS for violations of electoral policies and rules, but Onderwater sought an appeal and was attempting to correct her campaign when she was suddenly struck from the ballot.
Onderwater approached CIVL Radio to speak out about the injustice of her removal in light of similar violations by other candidates who were not subject to the same severity.
“I am now in a position where I’m not allowed to run for the next two years,” said Onderwater.
CIVL Radio reached out to exiting SUS president Ashley McDougall and 2024 electoral officer Claire Cook, who refused to divulge any information beyond what was written in the annual election report.
But the report doesn’t capture the whole story—listen to the audio for more details.
