Ahead of the premier of the third season of Filipino sketch comedy show Abroad, the Canadian Screen Awards has announced that it is nominated for two awards.
Abroad is sketch comedy show on Omni TV with a prominently Filipino cast. It premiered in 2022 and is now coming up to its third season this upcoming May.
On Mar 6 it was announced that the second season is up for two awards – one for best sketch comedy program or series, and another for best performance in sketch comedy (individual or ensemble). Last year it was only nominated for one award.
Isabel Kanaan, a writer and performer on Abroad, says that being nominated for these awards shows Canada embracing multiculturalism.
“Not only for the show, but for our Inner Inner child. That immigrant in us that is trying to embrace both cultures. It’s great that can Canada embraced us back,” says Kanaan.
