Mount Allison University’s music department hosted celebrated saxophonist Jess Gillam last week as an Artist-in-Residence.
“I love working with young people,” said Gillam, who herself is only 25-years-old. “I feel like we’re all learning together.”
Gillam, who is from Cumbria, England, hosts her own show on BBC Radio 3, This Classical Life, has had both of her albums hit No. 1 in the U.K. classical music charts, and has won multiple awards including an M.B.E.
Music student Kathleen Desmond, who participated in one of Gillam’s workshop said she appreciates having an outside perspective on her music and future career options.
“It kind of shakes up your life a bit.”
