Canadians often think of our country as a beacon of hope to the desperate, and as a welcoming destination for refuge. That includes Prince George — people from all over the world reside here, following upheaval in their country of origin.
The Exploration Place in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park features an exhibit exploring this topic. Refuge Canada runs until May 26. The interactive exhibit acknowledges Canada’s complex record, with triumphs in humanitarianism existing alongside callous policy. It also asks if the harm incurred by actions past, present and future have been considered.
Assistant Curator at the museum Chad Hellenius guides listeners through the highs and lows of both, putting this exhibit together, and its potential significance to residents of Prince George.
