Once a year, the Nanaimo Francophone Association hosts the biggest francophone celebration on Vancouver Island in Nanaimo.
The three-day Maple Sugar Festival celebrates French culture, language, food and music in the community.
CHLY speaks with Pauline Maerten, the cultural and administrative coordinator for the Nanaimo Francophone Association, about the importance of celebrating and sharing French culture. She talks about how maple sugar is used to bring people together and how the festival is for people to pass down French culture.
As well, CHLY speaks to two performers, Pierre Schryer and Danielle Enblom, about sharing French and Métis culture through music.
