Hundreds of counter-protestors gathered at Confederation Park to show their support to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in response to the “1 Million March 4 Children” yesterday.
The 1 Million March 4 Children consisted of protests held across Canada on Sept. 20, with their main cause being the rejection of what they call “gender ideology” in Canadian schools.
The 1 Million March protesters in Kingston gathered in front of City Hall at around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. At the same time, Kingston’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies responded with a counter protest approximately twice the size of the opposing crowd, gathering directly across the street in Confederation Park. At the peak of the protest, approximately 150 protestors and 300 counter-protestors were present. Cars passing through the divide between the two crowds showed their support for either side, honking and sporting flags and stickers.
At around 11:40 a.m., the 1 Million March protestors turned down Market Street to march through downtown. Counter-protestors celebrated and overtook both sides of Ontario Street, standing on the steps of city hall.
