In a media briefing on Feb. 16, the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) released results of its public engagement on the draft Climate Action Plan.
A total of 3,518 comments were submitted by residents between April and October 2023. Feedback was gathered through various channels including open houses, surveys, dialogue circles, emails, letters, webinars, online forums, and Community Ambassador initiatives at local events.
Dauna Ditson, the Community Resilience Coordinator with the RDCK, highlighted five items the public is asking for: the right to choose, clear and direct communication, local solutions, increased resilience from the RDCK, and interest in working together.
The public engagement results show mixed support for over 50% of the 99 actions in the draft Climate Action Plan.
