Victim Services Toronto’s new campaign Ask for Angela brings an after hours code phrase to grocery stores in Toronto.
“Ask for Angela” originally started in the United Kingdom in 2016 in bars to help people get away safely from sexual harassment. When a woman asks a staff member for Angela, it is code to staff that the woman is asking for help.
VST has now partnered with Loblaws to bring the system to grocery stores in the GTA. This enables people who are looking to get into contact with VST to reach them discreetly in a safe environment. Staff at the stores will be trained to respond to different ways people may ask for Angela.
Starting Feb. 22 people can Ask for Angela in participating stores. This includes Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, Shoppers Drug Mart, No Frills and Valu-Mart.
