Last month, the Nelson Committee on Homelessness (NCOH) announced that the Coordinated Access Hub located will be shutting down in March due to insufficient funding.
The central facility, located at 521 Vernon Street, serves as a vital resource for the unhoused and vulnerable community, according to advocates, providing them with access to essential harm reduction services and various other programs.
Joyce Dahms from the NCOH says, “what we’re losing is … a place for people to feel welcome and connect with their support.”
Despite the closure of The Hub, many of the services that are offered there will still be available to the public. This includes coordinated access for finding housing, overdose prevention by ANKORS and street outreach.
The NCOH views this closure as temporary and is looking at all options to open a new location.
