Quebec’s surgery waitlist has exceeded 170,000, surpassing levels seen at the height of the pandemic.
Dr. Patrick Charlebois, President of the Quebec Association of Surgery, told CJLO that it will take a long time to reduce the backlog.
He explained that the situation is a symptom of overall strain on our healthcare system and a lack of manpower in all aspects of pre and post-operative care. “To get a patient through surgery we need clinics that are running effectively…we need the preoperative clinic that’s our staff and so that patients can be seen in a timely fashion,” he said.
