St. Jude Community Homes has purchased 1845 Gerrard St. E. to keep the buildings units affordable for tenants. The acquisition was made possible through a 4 million dollar contribution by the Multi-Unit Residential Acquisition (MURA) Program.
The announcement was made on February 8 outside the newly purchased building by Mayor Olivia Chow, and Carol Zoulalian, Executive Director of St. Jude Community Homes.
St. Judes is an agency dedicated to providing housing and support services to people with mental illnesses.
Rent at this 20 unit address will be set “at a maximum average of 80 per cent of Average Market Rent as reported annually by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation,” for 99 years says the City in a press release announcing this new acquisition.
