Planned obsolescence is getting more attention these days as people question why so many products are going to the landfill because they can’t be fixed.
Sherbrooke confronts planned obsolescence with Repair Café, tackling the issue affecting daily life. Serge Langlois, coordinator with Entreprendre Sherbrooke, defines planned obsolescence and its impact, highlighting the city’s proactive stance.
Repair Café, a joint effort by Entreprendre Sherbrooke and Café Réparation, encourages community involvement in repairing and reusing items. Volunteers, equipped with diverse skills, assist in fixing various items brought in by locals.
Langlois emphasizes Repair Café’s potential to combat planned obsolescence by promoting repair culture and reducing waste. Repairs are often immediate, with guidance provided if needed.
Community engagement is vital, and participation is encouraged by contacting them through social media platforms.
Sherbrooke’s Repair Café starts this Saturday, at 10 am, and finishing at 5pm, February 10th at the Centre Communautaire Richard-Gingras in St-Élie.
