Tantramar Deputy Mayor Greg Martin lives in Mount Whatley, just on the other side of the TransCanada highway from Aulac, in the place he grew up and where his family settled generations ago.
Back then the community was called Green Hill, and at one point in history it was a growing Black community, the biggest in the region between Amherst and Dorchester, what one researcher called the “locus of Black life” in the area.
